WHO ARE WE?

A small, but growing team of 5 women, working from homes all over the U.S. but coming together to spread calligraphy and creativity to as many people as possible.

Our mission is to help people get past the negative bullshit blocking their creativity and have fun pursuing their calligraphy dreams. (Oh, and we embrace self-expression and curse words, so if that delights you, then great! You’re our people.)

Crooked Calligraphy was started in 2016 by Shinah Chang - a former corporate lawyer who quit six years ago with no backup plan in place. Shinah used to work 80+ hours a week making rich companies richer. She did NOT want to re-create that hustle mentality in her own company. So, we do HIGH-QUALITY work. We make an IMPACT in the world. We show up on time and do what we say we’re going to do. But we also know the importance of balance and believe that we do our best work when we're in alignment, not stressed out.


WHO ARE YOU?

  • You are truly a people person – you love connecting with others

  • While you may not have a lot of “online biz” experience, you know and love sales and marketing!

  • You love writing a good Instagram caption

  • You enjoy talking through pain points and offering people solutions– you’re sales-minded in that way, but not sleazy sales-y

  • You like creating graphics in Canva or Adobe

AND

  • You also love strategy - you like to track important metrics in a spreadsheet to determine what marketing techniques are working best

  • While you may not be familiar with all the “techy” stuff, you are an adaptable, proactive person who doesn’t mind problem-solving when it comes to tech and software

  • You’re solution-oriented, especially when you see something that could be done better

  • You’re not afraid to propose your own ideas when it comes to sales and marketing

  • You double-check everything you put out into the world!

  • You like to take initiative and be proactive

  • You like to run through your writing from a client or customer perspective to ensure that nothing is confusing or missing (messaging matters!) 

As you can probably tell, we’re looking for a unique combination here: the ideal candidate is creative and curious about truly understanding our customer’s pain points and wildest dreams. They’re also interested in the hard data and are familiar enough with spreadsheets and tech to create a marketing SYSTEM and track its effectiveness. 

If you are looking for a traditional work environment with strict hierarchies and lots of hand-holding, this is not the place for you.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the following platforms and software:

  • Instagram

  • Facebook Pages and Groups

  • Facebook Creator Studio

  • ConvertKit

  • Squarespace

  • Pinterest

You must also:

  • Be a quick learner who is able to work proactively and independently

  • Be organized and detail-oriented (in fact, if you’re reading this, include the word “leapfrog” somewhere in your application, ok?)

  • Be willing to learn new platforms and come up with ways to do things better

  • Be looking for responsibility and GROWTH in this position

  • Enjoy communicating clearly and openly, and receiving honest feedback

  • Be up for honest conversations and showing p as your authentic self, even if it’s uncomfortable — this is where growth happens

This position is NOT for you if:

  • You like being micromanaged

  • You want to chat with me all-day

  • You ask questions BEFORE googling or doing some basic research

  • You sit and twiddle your thumbs if I have not given you enough tasks to fill your time

  • You make the same mistakes multiple times

  • You just want to learn how to start your own creative business


HOURS/TIMING:

  • 4 hours each Mon-Fri (9am - 1pm eastern time, with some flexibility) With room to grow.

  • Must be available for a weekly team meeting at 10:30 am pacific time on Tuesdays

  • We’ll start with a 30-day trial period, and then have another check-in at 60 days, to ensure we are a great fit.

PERKS OF THIS JOB:

  • Completely remote, so you can work from home in your pajamas

  • Flexible. We are a fully remote team, so we will expect you to be available during roughly the same hours every business day, to respond to our customers and communicate with our team. However, we are also all working moms so as long as you complete all your assigned tasks on time, there is a lot of flexibility in your work hours.

  • If you have most of the skills we are looking for but need to learn more about one or two of them, we are willing to purchase a course to help train you.

  • Our team! We have high standards, but we communicate them clearly. (Absolutely no diva antics around here.)

  • Quarterly learning opportunities.

PAY

  • $20/hr with room to grow and potential bonuses based on company performance


BELOW IS A LIST OF DETAILED TASKS THAT WE NEED HELP WITH:

SALES:

  • Conduct scripted sales conversations to inbound questions and messages to help potential customers decide if any of our programs are right for them

  • Respond to daily questions from potential customers watching our sales webinar

MARKETING:

  • Repurpose existing videos and other marketing materials into new social media and email content 

  • Create graphic templates in Canva for use on IG, FB and Pinterest

  • Schedule social media videos and photos in scheduler

  • Collaborate with CEO in content creation process and brainstorming

  • Draft, format, and schedule weekly email newsletter content in ConvertKit

  • Plan how to use student testimonials strategically in the marketing plan

  • Routinely track marketing metrics in KPI spreadsheet 

  • Maintain organized and up to date editorial calendar

COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT:

  • Answering questions and commenting in our free Facebook group

  • Create content and schedule posts in Free Facebook group

  • Respond to questions and comments on Facebook Ads

OUTREACH:

  • Pitch CEO for podcasts, conferences, YouTube shows, etc

  • Implement organic outreach strategies in FB and IG

INBOUND MESSAGES + ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:

  • Handle inbound email requests such as podcast interview pitches, joint-venture proposals, etc

  • Respond to Instagram and Facebook DMs

  • Misc administrative tasks assigned (ie research, troubleshooting tech problems, etc)
